The Expectations

Not everyone knows what is PD and they are not supposed to know. Keep expectations low…

On April 11th, we were at a Hotel (Vivanta by Taj) in Bhubaneswar, I asked few of the staff there if know what 11th April is celebrated as…

None knew…

Then I checked with a some of them if they knew what Parkinson’s disease is, none knew.

The knowledge of most would be limited to the not so palatable WhatsApp forward which goes like ‘I would rather have Parkinson’s than
Alzheimer’s – because it’s better to spill half the glass than forget where you put the liquor.

We have websites listing ‘best Parkinson’s jokes’

Such is the insensitivity towards and ignorance of the disease I have, the PD.

Many educated friends once I told them I have PD resort to questions like: is your hand shaking? are you dragging your feet.

Some would be slight unkind and say – yes, I noticed you are not walking properly etc. etc.,

Certainly, this initially gave a lot of stress, embarrassment, and anxiety….

But with time I came to terms with reality…

It is not someone’s fault that he does not know about
PD, he is not supposed to know….
